12 Unforgettable Living Spaces in Paris

I love reading my Architectural Digest magazine.  Its a known fact that no one in my family is allowed to read ANY interior magazine before I have had a chance to look, sign and dream!

In this latest article from Architectural Magazine, it seems that French style is perennially chic. Paris is the epicenter of luxury, after all, with enviable fashion, food, design, and lifestyle. And let’s not forget the awe-inspiring French châteaux. We scoured the AD archives for the best examples of beautiful French decor. Each room, whether a living room, dining room, or entryway, expresses a certain je ne sais quoi. Gilded antique furniture, luxurious tapestries, and impressive chandeliers—not to mention a fresh bouquet of flowers for a pop of color—are just some of the accents that add dimension and a uniquely Parisian flair to these spaces.

What appears to be a gilt-framed mirror in designer Timothy Corrigan’s Paris apartment is actually a window aligned with two mirrors, one in the living room and one in the dining room beyond. Corrigan highlighted the ingenious hall-of-mirrors illusion by installing matching Napoléon III chandeliers in the two rooms. The armchairs and the sofa are all from Schumacher’s Timothy Corrigan Collection; the stools are vintage Jansen, and the carpet is a Corrigan design for Patterson Flynn Martin.

In the living room of Elie Saab’s opulent Paris apartment, the low table and sofas created by architect Chakib Richani were “inspired by the cube,” he says.

A deep red Anish Kapoor sculpture greets visitors in the entrance hall of a midcentury house in the suburbs of Paris, designed by Charles Zana for a couple with a blue-chip contemporary art collection. The text painting is by Richard Prince, and the console is by Eric Schmitt; a dramatic glass-bead sculpture by Jean-Michel Othoniel dangles from 30 feet above.

Fashion editor Anne McNally’s soigné Paris living room was decorated by Jacques Garcia with an ornate mirror and fresh mint-colored walls.

An antique Bessarabian rug from Beauvais Carpets inspired designer Jean Louis Deniot to create the color scheme of this Paris living room, which features a 19th-century Italian chandelier and 17th- and 18th-century European portraits.

In the Paris duplex of fashion designer Stefano Pilati, the dining room’s woodland mural, painted by Mathias Kiss and Olivier Piel of Atelier Attilalou, artfully echoes the garden. The table is set with vintage Lalique glassware and Elsa Peretti crystal candlesticks for Tiffany & Co.

Over the Parisian living room’s stone mantel is a silk-screen portrait by Warhol; the stools are by Perriand.

The Paris flat of fashion-and-jewelry designer Veronica Toub was renovated by Laurent Bourgois Architecte. In the salon, a vintage Paul László sofa faces cocktail tables by Hubert le Gall. At left hang artworks by Maurice Estève, and between the windows is a piece by Helen Khal.

A large Roberto Matta canvas overlooks the living room in decorator Linda Pinto’s Paris apartment. In the foreground at left is a bronze side table by Claude Lalanne, next to a sofa accented with 1970s fur pillows.

The entrance hall’s Jansen balustrade and mirror are original to the Paris apartment of Dior executive Mathilde Favier-Meyer; Knoll chairs flank a console by Gilbert Poillerat.

In designer Tino Zervudachi’s Paris apartment, an Adam Fuss photogram is displayed above the room’s Louis XVI bureau à cylindre, which is paired with a white Louis XVI chair.
